And They Said Speak Up
Priya was a teenage girl, who lives with her small family. Priya didn’t have any group of friends because her speech was not yet developed. She had a really hard working mother, the only person in the family who would understand what she’s saying. Priya was a dreamer, she had a world of her own, in her mind.
Priya was never able to communicate with the people in her Surrounding. She knew that no body has the time to listen to her babbles and make out meaningful words with that. There was the time when she had really tried to express her feelings. After seeing their un responsive and in active behaviours, she stopped making efforts.
Priya's mind Didn’t stopped, it didn’t stopped responding to the environment and it didn’t stopped thinking. She thought about various questions like why do birds fly, why do the stars twinkle. These were the question spread around her head.
On the other hand, people still perceived her as a baby who doesn’t have a mind of her own. Priya was never addressed Individually by anyone, they will always ask the person beside her, for her introduction. This was the reason why she didn’t had her own group of friends. Priya didn’t understand how she would be able to break free from the situation.
It was when she was handed a mobile phone by her a mobile phone. This device really changed her life. She was now able to communicate through the various text to speech application available on the phone. Priya was now able to communicate with people though the help of this app.
In one of the first poem that she wrote on her Mobile phone, was about her frustration About when people was not able to understand her, and when she wasn’t able express her own feelings.
Priya is now at the age of 24 and is able to communicate with people though this device. She has a good friend circle and have a great job of her own. She has finally overcome her disability and lives her life independently.
